There are many people who have gone through divorce. Based on their experience, they may be able to offer you some  suggestions about how you could be celebrating your divorce.

Going through a divorce can be an emotional roller coaster.  You can experience the highs of starting a new chapter in your life and/or the lows of leaving an era behind.  Sometimes a divorce happens quickly, and other times it can be drawn out for an eternity.  You may be eager to move on, or you may be fighting to make your marriage work.  Both you and your soon-to-be-ex have figured out how to split your assets and have determined custody of the children.  These stresses often make people feel happy that the ordeal is finally over, and more and more new singles are choosing to celebrate their divorce and their new lives.  Here are some great ways to acknowledge the transition:

♦ Throw a party.  This can be anything from a dinner party with friends to a huge bash.  A quick scan of Pinterest will reveal numerous ideas for funny divorce cakes, anti-spouse décor, and even tiny wedding ring coffins!  A gathering of friends and loved ones will help remind you that even though you are single, you are not alone.

♦ Go on vacation.  Sometimes there is no better way to clear your head than to completely remove yourself from the situation.  If you dream of lying on the beach or hiking in the mountains, go ahead and do it.  Go someplace you’ve never been before; a place where there are no memories of your ex.

♦ Follow that dream your ex never liked.  If you’ve always wanted to write a book or go skydiving, but your ex never supported it, now might be the perfect time to do it.  This is your chance to live your life without a spouse in mind, so live it to the fullest.

♦ Redecorate your home.  Get rid of the knickknacks or wall hangings that your ex picked out and buy others that express your personality.  Throw a fresh coat of paint on the living room walls to liven it up a little.  Even if you can only afford to do a little bit at a time, redecorating is a good way of transitioning your home into your own personal sanctuary.

♦ Destroy the evidence.  Whether you’re burning old photos (or more likely deleting them), destroying your wedding dress, or throwing your wedding ring off a bridge, getting rid of wedding mementos in creative ways is a pretty common method of commemorating your split.  It may seem destructive, but it serves as a physical representation of achieving closure and starting over.

♦ Get a makeover.  This goes for both women and men.  A haircut and an updated wardrobe can go a long way towards making you feel like a new person.

While a divorce is not without its pain, it is a chance to redefine your life through new eyes.  A celebration can be a symbol of your acceptance of both yourself and your situation.  It can be nice to spoil yourself a little while avoiding post-marriage depression.  Choose a way of celebrating that suits your personality and your budget, and include your friends and family.  Go ahead, you deserve a little celebration.
