Family law lawyer Cindy Scharff from Gelman and Associates in Barrie, Ontario was quoted by MoneyWise on their article about how to protect one’s finances when leaving an abusive partner. She said that while safety is the number one concern, somebody has to think of how to leave.
“A lot of people are starting from zero trying to figure out: Well, what do I even have? And then, what do I need? Both of those can be big unknowns to people when they’re trying to figure out how they can do this,” says Scharff.
