We are open in our 7 offices to serve your needs

While your Barrie divorce lawyer can tell you the right way to handle certain situations, nothing quite illustrates the wrong way like an 8-inch by 10-inch glossy in the middle of a magazine or a video clip of a celebrity couple airing their dirty laundry in front of the world.

Whirlwind romances, lavish weddings and the almost-inevitable public clashes that lead to divorce are a staple in the entertainment news media. Of course, that’s terrible news for the celebrities involved. However, it gives the rest of us a glimpse into the horrific train wrecks that some divorces have the potential to become. On the surface, it looks like most celebrities don’t understand the benefits of collaborative divorce—and that often spells disaster.

Celebrity Divorces Gone Bad: What Not to Do

The Paul McCartney-Heather Mills marriage, one of the biggest celebrity crash-and-burns in recent memory, serves as a prime example of undignified behaviour that’s best left out of court: Mills allegedly sloshed a glass of water over McCartney’s lawyer’s head.

Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards had a particularly nasty split, with Sheen calling his ex some of the worst names in the book. Whether it was his admitted drug problem or just a mental meltdown, Sheen didn’t exactly take the high road during one of the messiest celebrity divorces in human history.

Amicable Splits

Although friendly celebrity divorces don’t make captivating news stories, plenty of stars have peaceful splits. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver each chose to end their marriages but keep things friendly for their kids’ benefits.

Divorcing Smarter than Celebrities

All told, there are plenty of things we can learn from celebrity divorces (aside from the obvious, such as not dousing your ex’s Barrie divorce lawyer with whatever you’re sipping in court). Like all of us, celebrities are human and make mistakes—but watching their divorces teaches us that:

  • Working together is better than dragging each other down in an attempt to gain ground
  • Kids are better off when parents cooperate and keep them out of the line of fire
  • Name-calling and generally bad behaviour sends the idea of cooperation right out the window

Involving Your Barrie Divorce Lawyer

If things get dramatic, let your Barrie divorce lawyer know right away. A drama-free divorce is best for everyone involved—especially the kids—and your lawyer may be able to stop problems before they snowball out of control.
